BIRMINGHAM - AL -

Hundreds gathered at Brother Bryan Park to rally and march in support of the right to life for each human being.

Pro-lifers from throughout the state came to the annual United for Life Rally Saturday to hear what leaders had to say about further advancing the pro-life agenda in Alabama.

March for Life director, Jim Pinto, says "Every life is precious, we have no right to kill anybody in the womb, or outside of the womb."

During the rally, leaders rang 57 memorial bells, which represent one million aborted babies.

"Women need to be protected, and women deserve better than abortion," says participant Cindy Cuellar.

The rally comes after the last operating women's clinic in Birmingham temporarily shut down. A sign is still on the door of planned-parenthood alerting everyone of the change. The clinic is referring clients to other clinics in Mobile and Georgia. If the facility remains closed, Birmingham will be one of the largest metropolitan areas in the country without a women's clinic.

For March for Life director, Jim Pinto, the closing is morally right. "We're here to celebrate, and we pray that it stays that way," says Pinto.
