Fairfield Mayor Kenneth Coachman is making plans to fill a council vacancy after former District 2 representative  Primus Mack was found guilty this week of 2nd degree sexual abuse and enticing a child. Mack has been removed from his position.

Mack was accused of  groping and kissing his teenage granddaughter when she spent the night at his house.

Coachman tells ABC 33/40 Wednesday that, according to state guidelines, the council will either appoint someone to the position or hold a special election. He says he prefers a special election so that citizens can choose a new leader. He says the term would be about three years, and he has already received inquiries about it.

Coachman also says the situation is "unfortunate" and "everyone is still in shock" over Mack's ordeal.

The Fairfield City Council is expected to discuss filling the vacancy during its next meeting January 21 at 7 p.m. at City Hall.
