Birmingham leaders to consider funding related to environmental cleanup

Posted: Updated:

The Birmingham City Council will vote Tuesday on whether to approve more than $130,000 to help with the north Birmingham environmental cleanup.

Part of the area is a declared EPA Superfund site, including Harriman Park, Collegeville and Fairmont neighborhoods.

The district's representative William Parker is requesting the money to hire four consultants. They will help with issues including public relations, coordination of activities and grant-writing.

City leaders will also vote on funding to continue legal help in the area.

Parker, city leaders and community members will make an educational trip to a former Superfund site in South Carolina later this month.
