National Stalking Awareness Month

Posted: Updated:

Alabama's First Lady Dianne Bentley has partnered with One Place Family Justice Center, the Family Sunshine Center and Zonta of Montgomery to recognize National Stalking Awareness Month.  Empty shoes will be placed on the Capitol steps to represent those who have lost their lives.  It's meant to show the negative effects of domestic abuse.

According to the web site dedicated to the awareness month, this is the 10th anniversary of the first National Stalking Awareness Month. Organizers say they have seen increased awareness of stalking over the last decade, thanks in part to stronger laws.  They say there has also been more training of thousands of professionals who respond to stalking and better services for victims.

The event in Montgomery takes place on the Capitol steps off Dexter Avenue, Friday, January 10, 2014, at 2:30PM.
