One killed, one severely burned in Birmingham fire

Birmingham Fire & Rescue are investigating what caused a fire that killed one person and severely burned another person.  The fire started about 2:40 a.m. Friday at a home on Fulton Avenue at 6th Place SW in Birmingham.

Three people were inside the home when the fire started.  One person was able to make it out without injuries.  She was taken by the Red Cross to a nearby hotel.  The Red Cross is assisting now while investigators figure out what started the fire.

Initial calls indicated someone was trapped inside the home.  When first responders arrived, ABC 33/40 learned their Rapid Response team went straight into the house.  Two people were inside, one in the front and one in the back of the house.  One victim was sent to UAB's burn unit with severe injuries.

Names of the victims have not been released.  At this time, there is no word on the cause of the fire.
