Report: Kevin Steele gets defensive coordinator job at Louisville

Posted: Updated:

Kevin Steele could join Bobby Petrino and Garrick McGee at Louisville.

ESPN's Brett McMurphy reports that Steele has accepted an offer to be the Cardinals defensive coordinator.

Steele served as defensive coordinator at Alabama (2007-08) and Clemson (2009-12). Clemson suffered an embarrassing 70-33 Orange Bowl loss to West Virginia in Steele's final game with Tigers. It was the most points allowed in a postseason game in the BCS era.

Steele returned to Alabama last season to be the Director of Player Personnel.

Petrino was introduced as Louisville's head coach on Thursday. Garrick McGee stepped down as head coach at UAB to become Petrino's offensive coordinator. It's the same role both had at Arkansas in 2010 and 2011.

Steele is expected to remain with the Crimson Tide for the next few weeks before joining Petrino's staff in full capacity.
