The former Homewood pastor accused of murdering his wife last year made a brief, video court appearance Thursday, one day after being extradited from Tennessee.

Richard Shahan, who was arrested on New Year's Day at the Nashville International Airport while trying to board a flight to Germany, listened as a judge informed him of the murder charge filed against him. Homewood police issued a murder warrant against Shahan Dec. 31, citing "inconsistencies" in his interviews for its decision to charge the ex-First Baptist Church of Birmingham pastor for the July 23 killing of his 52-year-old wife, Karen Shahan.

Richard Shahan's next court date has not been set.
