Birmingham leaders adopt legislative agenda

Posted: Updated:

The Birmingham City Council adopted its 2014 City of Birmingham Legislative Agenda Tuesday.

The agenda includes issues involving amending the Alabama Accountability Act, pushing for more regulation of payday loan businesses and opposing any legislation that would seek to reorganize the Birmingham Water Works Board.

Council President Johnathan Austin has requested school board members, the Mayor, city councilors, members of the Birmingham Transit Authority and Water Works Board to attend another work session with state lawmakers.

That meeting is scheduled for Thursday, January 9, at the Birmingham Crossplex beginning at 10:30 a.m.

"Having one legislative agenda to present is the most important thing we can do for the city," said Council President Johnathan Austin in a news release. "We gathered all the requests from each entity and will present it together as one team, one voice."
