Monday morning temperatures in the teens and 20's across our area Monday morning temperatures in the teens and 20's across our area

From the ABC 33/40 Weather Blog:
Update:

TEMPERATURES: Had a report from Hackleburg, in Marion County of 12 degrees with a wind chill index of 5 degrees below zero. We have temperatures between 10 and 13 over Northwest Alabama, low 20s are around Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, Anniston, and Gadsden. Temperatures will continue to fall through mid-morning, and then simply hover in that range for the rest of the day.

A north wind of 15-25 mph will keep the wind chill index in the 0 to 10 degree range all day. The last time we had a daytime high under 25 degrees was February 4, 1996.

TONIGHT: It will be the coldest night of the cold wave. We expect lows early tomorrow between 5 and 10 degrees. This should be our coldest morning since February 5, 1996 when our low was 6 degrees. The wind will be in the 5-10 mph range, and the wind chill index will be below zero in many places at daybreak tomorrow.

TOMORROW: Despite a sunny sky, we won't get past the mid 20s tomorrow, but at least the wind won't be as fierce during the day.

-----

The very cold Arctic air continues to settle into Alabama this morning. Most locations are well below freeing this morning and temperatures will only get colder today. The precip is out of here, but there will be a few very light snow showers through the morning, but no additional accumulations are expected. These snow showers will not show up on radar, but I assure you, they are out there.

We are in the mid-20s along the Intestate 59 corridor, but widespread teens across our northwestern counties this morning. The wind continues to blow at 10-20 mph and is gusting to near 30 mph. This is making it feel much colder than it is and we are now seeing those wind chills dip into the single digits. As the temps steadily drop, the winds will persist and our wind chills will drop below zero at times. This will be a problem for most of today.

Make sure you have bundle up today as temps will not warm. Use caution on the roads as there will be some slick spots as any standing water will have frozen over by now. Also, there will be areas of black ice. Please be careful on sidewalks and steps too as any water on these locations has frozen. Try to stay warm and safe today.
