Huntsville mayor calls Boeing significant partner

Alabama lost its bid to build The Boeing Company's  new 777-X jetliner.  Instead the plant will be located in Everett, Washington.

Huntsville was among more than 50 sites in 22 states whose leaders tried to convince Boeing to open its $10 billion assembly plant in their communities. The manufacturing operation will support nearly 8,500 jobs.

Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle says, Boeing remains a significant community partner.
"Huntsville greatly appreciates having been invited to participate in the selection process for Boeing's production of the new 777X and for the opportunity to have conversations with company executives about the talent and ability in out city,"  said Battle.

Last month, Boeing selected Huntsville for a $6 million research center.
