Hokes Bluff students to return to class

HOKES BLUFF - AL -

Etowah County schools officials say a middle school that was evacuated after students began suffering from respiratory problems will reopen this week.
Officials say tests to determine what caused respiratory issues at Hokes Bluff Middle School on Dec. 12 were inconclusive. Superintendent Alan Cosby says nothing in the tests indicated that the building is unsuitable for occupancy.
Authorities have said dozens of students in a gym class began hyperventilating and some were taken to a local hospital for evaluation.
The school was temporarily closed while authorities tested for contaminants, and classes were being held in alternate locations.
The school is expected to reopen on Friday.
