Crime Stoppers January 4: March 2013 homicide still unsolved

Posted: Updated:

In Crime Stoppers, a Birmingham man was shot in the doorway of his apartment. Issac Thomas was left to die and lost his life March 21. Birmingham Police Chief A.C. Roper explains how you have the power to help even though it's been several months.

"I'm Birmingham Police Chief A.C. Roper.

If you can find the courage to speak up about what happened to Issac Thomas or what you've heard, Crime Stoppers will help you lie low.

Thomas was 26 years old when he was shot and killed. It was a Thursday when he died.

Officers were called to the 100 block of Roosevelt Courtway Southwest. Thomas was lying in the doorway of his apartment. He had been shot.

Witnesses say several men came to the Thomas' apartment and started shooting into it. We're also told they shot Thomas' vehicle. Thomas was taken to UAB Hospital where he died.

Why would you protect those responsible for Thomas' death? Sure, some people are afraid they'll be next if they talk to us..

But remember: When you call Crime Stoppers, we never record the call and we never take your name. So no one will know it was you who called.

We need to find who's responsible. So if you know that answer, we need you to call Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.

We'll check the tip, and if an arrest is made, you get a cash reward and you stay anonymous. It's time to help. You owe it to Thomas. So tell us what you know. It's up to you to help.

With Crime Stoppers, I'm Birmingham Police Chief A.C. Roper."

You can reach Crime Stoppers anytime at (205) 254-7777.

Also, you can text 7777, along with your tip, to the word "CRIMES." Or if you prefer to send an encrypted tip online, go to www.crimestoppersmetroal.com click on the "submit an online tip" link.

No matter which method you choose, you will remain anonymous. Each tipster receives a private code number. If an arrest is made based on an individual's tip, the tipster can use the code number to claim a cash reward.

Crime Stoppers cannot call tipsters to testify in court.

Crime Stoppers of Metro Alabama is a partnership between local law enforcement, the Birmingham Business Alliance and ABC 33/40. Together, our goal is to make our community a safer place to live and work.
