Posted: Updated:

A 69 year old woman is dead and a 15 year old family member is charged with her murder. The year-end murder happened around 9:30 Monday morning in a rural neighborhood outside Clanton.  69 year old Anna Fells was found dead of stab wounds in her backyard. Police say a 15 year old family member is to blame. Deputies are now searching through the evidence and neighbors tell us, the news was dis-heartening.

"Something like this happens, it sends a domino effect throughout the community," Pastor Elijah Good, a neighbor said. "It's sad. Especially at this time of year."

It happened on county road 356. Sheriff Kevin Davis says 69 year old Anna Fells was stabbed to death by a family member.

"She was found in the backyard with what our investigators have determined to be multiple stab wounds," Sheriff Davis said.

Pastor Elijah Good lives right across the street from the scene. He told us, her murder is troubling to the entire community.

"As far as I know she was a good neighbor," Good said. "Good people. I don't know what happened."

Deputies pinpointed a 15 year old family member as a suspect, found him two miles down the road, and after a short foot pursuit he was taken to the Shelby County Juvenile Detention Center charged with her murder.

No details yet on how the two were related but both lived at this address.

"I do not know what led up to this today," Sheriff Davis said. "We have some evidence and going through evidence. I have investigators back there now going through different pieces of evidence to come up with a motive and reasons but right now we don't know why."

"It's hard to understand or to put yourself in this particular family situation because in this case they are a family that has ties to the victim and to our suspect," Sheriff Davis said.

There are no other suspects in the case.  Sheriff Davis says, more charges could be coming.
