What are you doing New Year's Eve

Singer Diana Krall's song asks the question many of us ponder about now - what are you doing New Year's Eve?

Time was American adults bought gowns and tuxedos and made plans to attend a dinner and dance to welcome in the New Year. Not so much anymore. Most of us will have a sip of the bubbly and kiss our significant other at midnight, but we do so from the comfort and safety of our own home.

A survey conducted by Barefoot Bubbly shows 66% of Americans questioned do plan some sort of celebration, but a majority, 54% will spend the night at home. Those results make businesses ask why. The number one reason given, the New Year's Eve celebration seldom lives up to expectations. The second most popular reason for staying home is expense. Most celebrants end up spending at least a couple hundred dollars more than intended.

Something that hasn't gone out of style is the midnight smooch as the clock strikes twelve. The poll asked men and women to name the person they would like to kiss besides their significant other. Twenty-eight percent of women wanted a kiss from Huge Jackman. Thirty percent of the men questioned said they would like to lock lips with Sandra Bullock.
