MONTGOMERY - AL -

Two promising lives were cut short early Saturday morning after gunfire rang out at a Montgomery bar.

Glenn Thomas, a 22-year-old up-and-coming rapper known as Doe B, and Kimberle Johnson, a student at Troy University who was celebrating her 21st birthday, died after being shot around 1 a.m. inside Centennial Hill Bar and Grill on Highland Avenue. According to police, six others were wounded in the shooting and transported to area hospitals, where they are all listed in stable condition.

Thomas, a father of two young children with a third on the way, was transported to Baptist Medical Center South, where he was pronounced dead. He was signed to the Atlanta-based record label Grand Hustle, which is owned by the well-known rapper and entertainer T.I.

Johnson, who was pronounced deceased at the scene, was a junior at Troy, where she was majoring in social work.

The untimely deaths of the two Montgomery natives left family and friends grieving and in shock over their senseless murders.

"A lot of people are taking it really hard," Latonya Jackson said. "Because, I mean, he was one of those people that didn't forget where he came from, no matter what, no matter where he was, he always talked about Alabama."

"I know that all she wanted to do was have fun and to enjoy her 21st birthday," Teresa Daniels said. "And then for her to go out and get murdered...it is devastating."

Police have yet to make an arrest in the case and an investigation remains ongoing.

Following the fatal shootings, Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange released a statement saying the city had decided to shut down the club due to it posing as "an imminent threat to the public's safety."
