Arson arrest made in apartment fire

Jefferson Co. DA releases name of man arrested for arson in north Birmingham apartment fire

Update:

The Jefferson County District Attorney's Office has released the name of the man arrested in connection with the Christmas Eve fire at Uptown Apartments in north Birmingham.

Derrick Reezer, 19, has been charged with second-degree arson, third-degree robbery, domestic violence and domestic violence by strangulation.

According to court records, Reezer has a rather lengthy criminal history, which includes previous drug, assault and criminal mischief charges.

An investigation remains ongoing.

The Birmingham police deport has announced the arrest of a suspect in connection with an arson investigation. The suspect is being investigated in connection with Tuesday's apartment fire at 1517 19th street north. Birmingham police need residents of the Uptown Apartments to call them so they can complete their investigation. Displaced residents are being asked to call the Burglary Unit at 205-254-1782.  Birmingham police spokesman St. Johnny Williams says additional information on the suspect will be released once a warrant has been officially issued charging the suspect.
