BIRMINGHAM - AL -

You're about to see some improvements and add-ons to a handful of businesses around Birmingham.

Thursday, city council approved more than $2.5 million of capital finances.

$1.6 million will go to the McWane Science Center, $500,000 will go to the Civil Rights Institute and $500,000 will go to the Lyric Theatre for renovations and expansions.

Council President, Johnathan Austin, says the money will see huge returns in the years to come.

"It's not just the capital, financial investment," he said. "But, also the investment into our human capital, into our young people, to help them grow and be exposed to things in order to become productive citizens."

The money is all part of capital bond money that was approved by voters last October.
