North Alabama drug agents say they're seizing large quantities of the drug being imported from Mexico, even though the state has curbed sales of meth ingredients.

Alabama Drug Task Force Chairman Barry Matson says the state is doing an "admirable job" of reducing domestic production of meth.

However, DEA spokeswoman Romona Sanchez says the increase of meth traffic from Mexico is likely associated with new restrictions on consumers buying ephedrine and pseudoephedrine in Alabama.

This law that went into effect this year. It restricts the sale of medication containing meth ingredients to only pharmacies. These medications must be kept behind the counter. The bill also requires customers to show ID and prevents people from buying more than 7 ½ grams of the drugs every 30 days.
