TUSCALOOSA COUNTY - AL -

A Tuscaloosa man was found shot to death Thursday evening after an argument with another man over women, police said. outside of a home on the 3100 block of Short 19th Street.

Police responded to a report of a shooting around 10:15 p.m. outside a home in the 3100 block of Short 19th Street. Upon arriving, officers found 31-year-old Marcus Lee White dead from multiple gunshot wounds in the front yard.

Authorities located the alleged gunman, a 24-year-old man, who was still at the location and took him into custody for questioning. The suspect and witnesses told investigators that White was told to leave the home following a verbal altercation, but he returned a short time later with a handgun. Another argument ensued and, according to police, White pulled out his gun, prompting the other man to draw his weapon and fire in self defense. The victim ran from the house after being shot before collapsing to his death in the yard.

"Based on the claim of self-defense by the suspect, the statements of witnesses at the scene, and the evidence located at the scene, the suspect has not been charged with anything at this time and his name is not being released," Lt. Kip Hart said in a release.

The case will be presented to a Tuscaloosa County Grand Jury at a later date for review.
