Less than a week after being arrested on sodomy charges in Shelby County, a 32-year-old Hoover man was re-arrested Wednesday night on six additional charges in connection with a sexual molestation investigation, police said.

Jason Michael Hankins was arrested by agents with the US Marshal's Gulf Coast Regional Task Force at a home on Avanti Lane around 8:30 p.m. and charged with first-degree rape, first-degree sodomy, first-degree sexual abuse, production of child pornography, sexual abuse of a child less than 12 years of age and electronic solicitation of a child. He was transported to the Jefferson County Jail, where he currently remains on bonds totaling $6 million.

Hankins worked as an assistant at Shades Crest Baptist Church's Family Life Center before voluntarily resigning last weekend after his Dec. 13 arrest in Shelby County on sodomy charges, including one count each of production of obscene matter containing visual depiction of person under 17 years of age involved in an obscene act, first-degree sodomy and distribution of material harmful to minors.

According to Hoover Police Capt. Jim Coker, the large bond amounts for each of Hankins' latest charges was requested due to the "horrific nature of the offenses, the age of the victim and the need to protect the community and other potential victims."

Updated to make correction to Hankins' former employer -- Shades Crest Baptist Church.
