A seven-time Paralympic medalist believes by promoting disable sports the nation can improve public health.

Cheri Blauwet, a paralympian and sports medicine doctor spoke today at The Lakeshore Foundation.

She said one of the biggest challenges is providing sports opportunities for young people with disabilities specifically in a school-based setting.

"Today's talk is a call to action, to say, be proud of what you do, and please let's work together to disseminate this model and show others how it can be done well," says Blauwet.

Blauwet is an American wheelchair racer. She has competed at the Olympic and Paralympic level in events ranging from the 100 meters to the marathon.

She's competed in the Athens and Beijing Olympics bringing home gold, silver and bronze medals.
