Toys for Tots Toy Drive in full swing

Posted: Updated:

This year's Toys for Tots toy drive is in full swing and the 26-hour toy drive is collecting donations for families in our area.  The ABC 33/40 team is at Southern Legacy Bar-B-Q with the United States Marines collecting toys.  The toys collected could make a difference in the lives of children who may not otherwise have anything underneath the Christmas tree this year.

The toys collected in the few short hours of the blitz could help 100 to 300 families in need.  Families that qualify are those who get government assistance.

One thing that is different this year is that families in need can still qualify to be given toys.  They just need to bring a few documents to the Toys for Tots Headquarters in Bessemer.  Parents or guardians need to bring a photo id, birth certificates of the children they need toys for, and proof of government assistance, like WIC or food stamps.

For more information, you can go to toysfortots.org and select "Alabama."
