Minister questioned in wife's death plans move to Germany

Posted: Updated:

ABC 33/40 has obtained newsletters and prayer cards for Richard Shahan, the Homewood minister who was questioned in connection in the death of his wife, Karen.  In the letter, Shahan says he is preparing to move to Germany for three years to do mission work. He's also asking for missions support and believes his wife would have wanted him to continue his ministry.

He says his plan is to work with Bible Mission International in Frankfurt, Germany. He says he will be developing Bible curriculum for Russian speaking children, preparing programs, and leading training workshops for teachers and parents. In the letter, he asks for prayer as well as financial support to fund his work overseas.

Karen Shahan was found dead inside the couple's home back in July. Her husband was jailed and questioned but never charged. Shahan has been the children's minister at First Baptist Church of Birmingham.

ABC 33/40 spoke with Richard Shahan. He was not willing to talk with us about his mission trip - saying he wants to remain private.

Homewood Police say there is no update on the case. No arrests have been made.
