Tuscaloosa Co. Sheriff's Office chief deputy to run for sheriff

Ron Abernathy, Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office chief deputy, is announcing his candidacy for Tuscaloosa County Sheriff.  Abernathy will make the formal announcement Tuesday, December 10th at 2:00 p.m. at the Tuscaloosa County Courthouse.

Abernathy served as chief deputy for the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office since 1999. He was hired as a detention officer in 1988 and has served in almost every aspect within the sheriff's office including an appointment as Sheriff from 2008 through 2009.

Former Tuscaloosa County sheriff, Ted Sexton, accepted a job as division chief of homeland security in Los Angeles, California earlier this year.  Sexton had 22 years of service in law enforcement in Tuscaloosa County.
