BIRMINGHAM - AL -

It has been a somber afternoon for family and friends of Michelle Shepherd. Shepherd was shot and killed after an Iron Bowl party on November 30th at Summerchase at Riverchase Apartments. Today, people gathered in Ensley to say goodbye.

Shepherd leaves behind three small children, who were also at Kirskey's funeral home. Her daughter Destiny grabbed the microphone, turned to the crowd and said, "If it wasn't for my mom, I wouldn't be in this life."

Her sister Neketa who held her in her arms when she died remained strong throughout the ceremony. "I'm going to miss her every day. But I know she's in a better place," says Neketa Shepherd.

It's safe to say the pain they feel was overwhelming.

During the ceremony, the pastor read out of the book of Ecclesiastes saying there is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.

Longtime Activist, Frank Matthews, spoke on behalf of newly appointed city council president Jonathan Austin.

"They will prepare a resolution for this family, because he's deeply touched," says Matthews.

Shepherd was later buried at Oakland Memorial Cemetery.

Police have charged Adrian Briskey with Shepherds' murder. Briskey has since bonded out of jail.
