CALERA - AL -

A murder investigation is underway in Calera. Police say a 40 year old woman was shot and the suspect is in custody.

The shooting happened Thursday night around 6 on Slab Hill road in the South Calera area. The investigation is on-going. Family members on both sides tell us, this has been heartbreaking.

"It was a shock. Just a shock,' Bro. Jim Shannon, the Langston family's pastor said. "As you can imagine, just a shock."

Calera Police tell us, 40 year old Lisa Langston of Clanton was found dead of a gunshot wound outside this house. The suspect is 22 year old Demetrius Watson.

We spoke with his brother at the scene - he made serious accusations against the victim, saying his brother acted in self-defense.

"She barged up as if to hurt someone or looking for something," Joshua Watson, the suspect's brother said. "I don't know why she chose this exact house."

"It's a drug problem," Watson said. "It's a drug problem. That woman had no business. This is private property. Every house you see here is family and there are private property signs all over."

Lisa Langston leaves behind two children and a husband. They didn't want to talk on camera, but told us, Lisa was a wonderful wife and mother.

"She had the spirit of giving," Shannon said. "She was a very loving person. A faithful member of our church. Wonderful mom. Faithful wife. Good daughter."

While details about exactly what happened Thursday night are still unclear, tonight, two families are hurting.

"I'm always going to love him," Watson said. "I'm always going to stand behind him."

"The message of Christmas is hope," Shannon said. "And what a significant thing to be able to hang on to."

Langston's funeral is set for this coming Monday at the Lime Springs United Methodist Church. A court date has not yet been set.
