Outpouring of support for family of mother killed after Iron Bowl party

Posted: Updated:

There's an outpouring of support for a mother slain after an Iron Bowl Party last weekend.

A community of friends and relatives are showing their emotional and financial support for the family of 36-year-old Michelle Shepherd.

Shepherd was shot and killed Saturday night at an apartment complex in Hoover.

The Dannon Project, Shepherd's former employer, has set up a fund at Regions Bank, in care of Shepherd's sister Neketa Shepherd. NOTE: The fund isn't currently set up.

The money supports Shepherd's small three children.

Former UAB football player Byron De' Vinner tells ABC 33/40 he has put together a toy drive.

He says he also encourages people to bring clothes.

The items will be Christmas gifts for Shepherd's children.

De'Vinner has organized the drive at D1 in Homewood. As of Thursday morning, he says people have started making calls and planning to drop off toys.

Adrian Briskey is charged with Shepherd's murder. She is out of jail on a $75,000 bond.

A vigil is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday in East Lake for Shepherd.

Her funeral is Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Kirksey Mortuary Chapel.
