Franklin Co. school system to hold town hall after teachers arrested for relationship with student

Franklin County schools officials say they're planning a town hall meeting in December to discuss the recent arrests of two teachers for having a sexual relationship with a female student.  The teachers, both from Vina High School, were arrested less than a week apart.

Superintendent Gary Williams told Huntsville ABC affiliate WAAY-TV a town hall meeting has been scheduled for Dec. 9. The meeting is for the whole community and says the meeting will feature District Attorney Joe Rushing, Franklin County Sheriff Shannon Oliver among others.  Speakers will discuss these recent incidents, what to look for if an inappropriate relationship is taking place, and the legal ramifications of such a relationship.

On November 8, Sonny Tibbs, a Vina High School physical education teacher, was arrested after admitting to authorities that he was having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student.  Five days later, math teacher and boys basketball coach, Brian Keeton was arrested for allegedly having an sexual relationship with a different 17 year old female student.

Both have been suspended without pay and are free on bond.
