Fight between 2 men at Trussville home ends with fatal shooting

A fight between a 2 men at a home in Trussville Thursday night ended with a fatal shooting.

Police responded to a report of shots fired at a home on Rockridge Avenue around 4:30 p.m. Upon arriving, officers found 87-year-old Ken Millar suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. The victim was transported to an area hospital, where he later died.

Prior to the shooting, Millar was reportedly involved in an altercation with a man living at his home, Freddie Earl Patton, who was taken into custody as a person of interest in the case. Investigators and the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office are currently working to determine if any charges will be filed.

    A federal judge is delaying his decision on an Alabama law that could close some abortion clinics. U.S. District Judge Myron Thompson told attorneys in June that he hoped to rule by the end of July. But Thompson notified attorneys Thursday that he needs extra time and will have a ruling by Monday.
