Samford University is mourning the loss of a colleague, David McDaniel, who was killed in a weekend car accident on Mulga Loop Road.

The 52-year-old broadcaster was the announcer for women's basketball and sideline reporter for Samford University football.

Samford University released the following statement regarding McDaniel's death Friday:

"Today is a sad day for the Samford community as we lose a colleague and close friend, Dave McDaniel in a tragic car accident. Our hearts and prayers go out to his wife Vicki and their family during this difficult time. Dave has been an integral part of our Samford broadcast team for football and women's basketball and a true professional in his long career in broadcasting. His passion for our student-athletes and warm and caring attitude will be missed but not forgotten. May he rest in the house of our Lord (John 14:1-4)."

Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday from 5-7:30 p.m. at Peoples Chapel in Hueytown. The funeral will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m.
