Hoover parents continue to raise concern over loss of school buses

Hoover , AL -

Hoover families continued talks regarding the potential impact of eliminating school bus service.

Parents gathered Thursday night to discuss the next plan of action in an effort to keep the buses rolling.

Roughly 25 parents expressed frustration and concern about the potential halt to the service, hoping that their voices will be heard by school and city leaders. Organizers detailed costs of traveling, traffic issues and options for carpooling.

The Hoover Board of Education voted to eliminate buses July 15, and service is expected to cease next May. Some believe the board's decision was racially motivated.

According to supporters, 44 percent of the passengers on the 144 buses used daily are white while 62 percent are black.
