5 Plead Guilty In Abduction Of Girl In Mississippi

Posted: Updated:

Five people have pleaded guilty in Jackson, Mississippi,  in a scheme to kidnap a 6-year-old girl from her school in April.  The child was found unharmed the next day on a rural road.

Authorities say the woman who orchestrated the plan, Jesse Mae Brown Pollard, and her son Devonta Pollard, a former basketball player at the University of Alabama, were not among the five people who pleaded guilty Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Jackson.
Authorities say Jesse Pollard planned the abduction to pressure her cousin, the child's mother, in a land dispute.

Shamarius Ruffin, Wanda Faye Dancy and Shaquayla Johnigan pleaded guilty to conspiracy. Joyce Johnigan and James Shurmon Johnigan pleaded guilty to withholding information on a felony.
The sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 22.
