Campaign to reduce violent crime begins in Birmingham this week

BIRMINGHAM - AL -

A violent crime reduction campaign begins this week in the Birmingham area.

Supported by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), United States Attorney's Office, Crime Stoppers of Metro Alabama, Birmingham Police Department, Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, Jefferson County District Attorney's Office and the City of Birmingham, the announcement will be made Thursday morning during a news conference.

The public is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777 to report firearm violence. Tipsters will remain anonymous. Each tipster receives a private code number. If an arrest is made based on an individual's tip, the tipster can use the code number to claim a cash reward.

Crime Stoppers cannot call tipsters to testify in court.

Crime Stoppers of Metro Alabama is a partnership between local law enforcement, the Birmingham Business Alliance and ABC 33/40. Together, our goal is to make our community a safer place to live and work.
