New gingerbread house stamp unveiled

Posted: Updated:

The U.S. Postal Service has announced the new holiday Forever stamp.  It features the classic gingerbread house.

The Gingerbread Houses stamps have four different gingerbread houses set against a bright blue background. The pictures are of actual gingerbread houses, made with royal icing, sugary fruit slices for shingles, peppermint sticks for support beams, and round, candy-coated chocolate doorknobs and holly berries.  Renowned gingerbread house architect Teresa Layman built the houses under the direction of stamp art director Derry Noyes.Stamp artist Sally Anderson-Bruce photographed the houses.

The Postal Service expects to be very busy this holiday season, processing 545 million pieces of mail every day during the holidays. They say the busiest mailing day will be Monday, Dec. 16, with more than 607 million pieces of mail being processed. In all, the USPS will deliver nearly 15 billion pieces of mail between Thanksgiving and New Year's Eve.
