The man accused of a triple murder in Shelby County appeared before a judge Wednesday.

Jon Staggs pleaded not guilty to seven charges, including four counts of capital murder, one of which is for killing multiple people. He also is charged with three counts of murder during a robbery.

The three victims -- 22-year-old Casey Cumberland, 22-year-old Joshua Smith and 19-year-old Simeon Gilmore -- were found dead inside a house in September. The home was formerly occupied by Smith and his parents, but the victim's family has since moved.

Staggs' attorney requested state forensic testing at the home and on the vehicle involved.

Judge Reeves denied Staggs youthful offender status.

A trial date has not been set.
