Alabama's Landon Collins is SEC defensive player of the week

Landon Collins appears to be comfortable in his new starting role.

He was named the SEC defensive player of the week for his hand in Alabama's 45-10 win over Tennessee. Collins returned his first career interception 89 yards for a touchdown and collected six tackles against the Vols.

Collins started at strong safety for Vinnie Sunseri, who is likely done for the season after he injured ligaments in the previous week's win over Arkansas.

Collins was the starting at free safety against the Razorbacks and his versatility is getting noticed. Collins is one of 15 semifinalists for the Thorpe Award, which goes to the nation's best defensive back.

Alabama gets a week off before it plays LSU on November 9 at Bryant Denny Stadium.
