Update:

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Two suspects have been arrested in connection with two carjackings in Jefferson County Thursday morning, the sheriff's office said.

Shortly before noon, deputies received a tip regarding the possible whereabouts of one of the stolen cars -- a 2007 Chrysler 300 -- from a victim, who used a GPS tracking service to obtain the information. Authorities were told the vehicle was the Wylam area near New Mulga Loop Road and Loop Road.

Deputies canvassed the area and spotted the vehicle at a home in the 5200 block of Loop Road, where one of the suspects was seen attempting to remove the car's wheels. A second suspect was found sitting nearby the vehicle. Both alleged carjackers, whose identities are being withheld until formal charges are filed, were taken into custody.

Upon further search of the property, investigators located and recovered the second car stolen -- a 2005 Chevrolet Impala -- as well as the suspects' Nissan used in both incidents. They later learned the Nissan had been reported stolen in Forestdale in August.

Deputies didn't find any weapons at the residence. An investigation remains ongoing.

Original story:

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. -- Deputies are investigating two carjackings that happened an hour apart in Jefferson County Thursday morning.

According to a news release, the first incident occurred just before 6 a.m. in the 5700 block of Valley Road, where a woman had her 2007, black Chrysler 300 (Alabama tag 1C11Y55) stolen from her by two black males in a beige vehicle. The suspects allegedly fired shots at her during the carjacking, but she avoided injury.

The second carjacking happened around 7 a.m. in the 14 block of Minor Parkway. A man driving a 2005, white Chevrolet Impala (Mississippi tag WYE370) was rear-ended by two black males in an unknown make or model, light brown Nissan. The two suspects fired shots at the victim during the theft of his vehicle. He wasn't injured.

Following both incidents, BOLOs (Be On The Lookout) for the vehicles involved were issued to area law enforcement agencies. No arrests have been made as deputies continue to investigate.
