Birmingham artist, Dr. Don Stewart, has announced the release of his new book, "Past Medical History." It's a collection of autobiographical short stories that detail his unlikely path through medical school and into the art studio, and the academic and personal challenges that influenced the young doctor switch careers a quarter century ago to draw funny pictures full time.
"This book is definitely not a road map on 'How To Become An Artist'," said Stewart. "It's not a tale of struggle and triumph through compromise. It's the story of a quitter," Stewart said, "With a very happy ending."
Stewart funded the project through an online crowd sourcing campaign last summer. He and his wife, Sue Ellen Brown published the book through the DS Art Studio in Homewood. A book launch and signing party is scheduled for Saturday, October 19th at the DS Art Studio. "Past Medical History" is available for purchase through the DS Art web site, www.DSArt.com, and Amazon.com.
