Time to clean out medicine chests for safety

Posted: Updated:

What is in your medicine chest? If you are like many Americans, you have accumulated unwanted, unused prescription drugs. Other medications may be outdated.

Saturday, October 26 is National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day. On that day, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. the Etowah County Sheriff's Office and Drug Enforcement Unit will provide a way to safely dispose of these medications. People can bring drugs no longer needed to the East Gadsden Wal-Mart or to the Etowah County Courthouse.

A law enforcement officer will remain with the drug disposal box at all times. The drugs turned in will be treated as evidence and be disposed of properly.

Etowah county Sheriff Todd Entrekin advises individuals disposing of drugs to remove any identifying information.
