A Trussville man has been indicted on one count of bank fraud for allegedly falsifying loan documents while he served as the general sales manager at Serra Nissan in Birmingham, according to court documents obtained by ABC 33/40.

Abdul Islam Mughal, 47, entered a not guilty plea Monday one week after being arrested by FBI agents and three days after a federal grand jury handed down the indictment. He has since been released on a $5,000 bond. Under the terms and conditions of his release, Mughal was forced to surrender his passport.

The indictment accuses Mughal, who is no longer employed at Serra Nissan, of "devising a scheme to defraud Capital One Auto Finance during October 2012 in an attempt to obtain moneys, funds, credits, assets, securities and other properties owned by and under the custody and control of Capital One, National Association, by means of materially false and fraudulent pretenses, representations and promises."

According to his LinkedIn profile, Mughal began working at the area dealership in 1999 and described his duties as followed:

"In charge of ongoing staff development to achieve lowest turnover rate in market, with a staff responsible for setting multiple sales records. Negotiate contracts and provide approvals for sales, resulting in one of NADA's consistently highest grossing dealerships in the nation."
