A female dump truck driver in Tuscaloosa is alive today thanks to the heroic efforts of a man on his way to work.

According to Sgt. Brent Blankley, the driver of the truck had just picked up a load of asphalt at S.T. Bunn Construction plant when she lost control and overturned shortly after 7 a.m. in the 5000 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. A man who witnessed the accident during his drive into work immediately leaped into action after noticing the woman trapped inside the cab of the truck.

After kicking out the windshield, the man pulled the woman to safety just minutes before the truck erupted in flames. A Tuscaloosa police officer snapped a photo of the fiery scene shortly after the truck ignited, forcing police and Alabama State Troopers to close the road in both directions.

The driver wasn't injured in the crash and her rescuer, whose identity remains unknown, sustained only minor cuts and scrapes during the incident.

State Troopers continue to investigate the accident.
