GEORGIA'S STATEMENT

Georgia is back in the national championship picture after a statement win over LSU.

Aaron Murray threw four touchdown passes, including a 25-yarder to Justin Scott-Wesley with 1:47 remaining, and the ninth-ranked Bulldogs rallied to beat No. 6 LSU 44-41 in a thrilling game between Southeastern Conference powerhouses.

The Bulldogs (3-1, 2-0 SEC) completed their opening-month run through a gauntlet of top 10 teams with a victory that propelled them back into the thick of the national championship race.

LSU went ahead 41-37 on Jeremy Hill's 8-yard touchdown run with 4:14 to go, but that was plenty of time for Murray and the high-powered Bulldogs on a day when neither defense had much success.

Murray completed three straight passes and capped the drive by finding Scott-Wesley, who broke wide open behind the secondary to haul in a pass and tiptoe just inside the pylon for the winning score.

Murray ran for Georgia's other touchdown on a sneak and finished with 298 yards passing in Georgia's second victory over a top 10 team after a season-opening loss to Clemson.

TIDE TOPS REBS

Alabama responded to a week of soul-searching with a dominating defensive performance against Mississippi.

The Crimson Tide's offense didn't jump on the Rebels early, but Alabama turned to its ground game in the second half after the sluggish start.

T.J. Yeldon ran for 121 yards, Kenyan Drake gained 99 and the top-ranked Crimson Tide's defense smothered normally high-octane No. 21 Mississippi in a 25-0 victory.

The Tide (4-0, 2-0 Southeastern Conference) regrouped after a lackluster effort against Colorado State that prompted several team leaders to speak up and a series of one-on-one chats with coach Nick Saban during the week. Saban had said Alabama players were feeling "overwhelmed with expectations."

The result was an SEC West matchup that turned increasingly one-sided, with the Tide outgaining the Rebels (3-1, 1-1) 434-205 in total yards.

TRICKET'S TURN

Clint Trickett waited patiently while two others got the call this season as the starting quarterback at West Virginia. When his time finally came, the Florida State transfer came through.

Trickett threw a touchdown pass in his first start at West Virginia and engineered two late scoring drives, leading the Mountaineers to a 30-21 win over No. 11 Oklahoma State.

For all the mistakes West Virginia made in a 37-0 loss at Maryland last week, the Mountaineers (3-2, 1-1 Big 12) seemed to get most of the breaks Saturday.

Trickett was named West Virginia's third starting quarterback after Ford Childress was injured last week. Trickett was chosen to start over Paul Millard, who started the first two games but lost the job after a 16-7 loss at Oklahoma.

Trickett finished 24 of 50 for 309 yards in his first start since subbing for EJ Manuel for the Seminoles in October 2011.

SHAW HURT

South Carolina quarterback Connor Shaw sprained his right shoulder in a 28-25 win over UCF, but coach Steve Spurrier is hopeful he'll be able to return within two weeks.

Shaw left the game during the Gamecocks' opening series after he landed awkwardly on his shoulder during a run with 6:34 left in the first quarter. Shaw was dragged to the ground by UCF linebacker Terrance Plummer and fumbled. The Knights recovered the ball and Shaw came up holding his shoulder.

He was taken to the locker room and replaced by backup Dylan Thompson on the next series. Shaw returned to the sideline wearing a sling and ice pack.
