UAB's Maudrecus Humphrey declared ineligible

Posted: Updated:

Wide Receiver Maudrecus Humphrey will not be eligible to play for UAB this season.

The school said the former Hoover Buc will be allowed to practice with the team and continue to receive financial aid.

Humphrey sat out last season after he was dismissed from the Arkansas Razorbacks program for violating team rules.

He signed with UAB last spring. He was listed as a starter on the depth chart before the school announced that he was not eligible to compete in games, pending a decision from the NCAA. That decision came last this week.

"Obviously, we are disappointed for Maudrecus and his family that he will not be able to play this season," UAB athletics director Brian Mackin said. "The issue with his eligibility was one that was addressed internally and through standard NCAA procedures. We have recently learned that the NCAA's review determined that Maudrecus will not be eligible this season. We look forward to him continuing to be a part of our football program."

UAB plays at Vanderbilt Saturday afternoon. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
