HistoryMakers speak to students

BIRMINGHAM - AL -

Civil Rights activists brought some "living history" to several Birmingham schools.

This is the fourth annual Back to School with The HistoryMakers program.

The program is centered on the message of committing to excellence and encouraging students to finish their education.

Several HistoryMakers shared their own experiences with schools and the struggles they encountered.

One of those HistoryMakers was Reverend Gwen Webb, who shared stories of her time as a children's marcher during the Civil Rights movement.

"We don't want them to repeat any of the hardships that we had to endure. And that is why, one must know how important education is for them today," says Webb.

The history makers program is a nationwide effort, which impacts more than 25,000 students.
