Not long after Wednesday morning's anti-discrimination protest held by students and faculty at the University of Alabama, the president of the Student Government Association announced the suspension of student organization seating for the Crimson Tide football team's home opener Saturday.

SGA President Jimmy Taylor sent a letter to his fellow students informing them of the decision, which he said was made in an effort to promote diversity on campus. The suspension of block seating at Bryant-Denny Stadium means sororities and fraternities will lose its favorable-than-most assigned seating during the Crimson Tide's game against Colorado State.

Below is Taylor's letter to the student body.

Fellow Students,

My name is Jimmy Taylor, and I am your SGA President. Over the course of my term, I will be communicating with you, the student body, through monthly emails intended to update you on how the SGA is working to improve student life at The University of Alabama.

As you know, our campus has been the subject of attention for alleged discrimination within the Greek system. I want to address the situation and do my best to foster a sense of inclusiveness and diversity in all areas of campus. I want to commend the leaders who stood up for what they knew was right, and those who continue to extend the conversation. This type of selfless leadership is essential in moving the campus forward.

The Student Government Association is taking its role seriously in ensuring and promoting diversity across campus. Our goal is to have a vibrant and thriving community at The University of Alabama, where all students can pursue their goals in a safe, diverse and encouraging environment.

As your SGA president, I have and will continue to work towards finding solutions to this issue. The SGA has already begun talking to student leaders from all areas of campus, and facilitating conversations that can help move our campus forward. I am open to any suggestions and ideas for how we can best improve inclusivity on campus. I represent you, and I will work to make sure your voice is heard.

I feel it is my duty as SGA president to foster togetherness and represent all students. With this in mind, I feel it is appropriate to suspend Student Organization Seating for this Saturday's football game against Colorado State. As a university, we have seen significant growth in recent years; however, as we continue to grow bigger, we must also grow better. This Saturday is an opportunity for all students to come together with a common goal, and we can begin by cheering on the Alabama football team together as one University.

Jimmy Taylor
