HOOVER: The Hoover Fire Department is conducting a drill today at the Hoover Sports Park off Old Rocky Ridge Road.
Other agencies, including the Alabama State Troopers will participate in the drill to rescue mock victims from the Cahaba River.
The agencies will be using new, high-tech equipment.

 

BIRMINGHAM: The Bachmann-Strauss Center of Excellence at the University of Alabama at Birmingham is opening.
UAB is one of three universities taking part of a $1.2 million grant from the Bachmann-Strauss Dystonia and Parkinson's Foundation. The other two schools are The University of Florida and The University of California San Francisco.
Dystonia is a movement disorder that affects as many as 300,000 Americans.

 

TUSCALOOSA: September is National Preparedness Month. And today in Tuscaloosa, it is Be Ready Day.
Tonight in the parking lot of Belle Foods, Tuscaloosa law enforcement and emergency officials will be out to educate residents on how to be ready for emergency situations. Helicopters from AirEvac will also be out at Snow Hinton Park. There will be hot dogs and pizza, from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m.
Tuscaloosa County will also be rolling out their YellowDot program, to help provide critical information for first responders in the event of an accident.
Also, out very own James Spann will be there.
