BIRMINGHAM-AL -

Forty one suspects are in custody on drug distribution charges, announced the U.S. Attorney Joyce White Vance Monday.

The U.S. Attorney for the Northern District, along with the Drug Enforcement Administration and a coalition of other federal, state and local law enforcement held a news conference at 2 p.m. to announce the arrests, which are part of the Northern District's ongoing Heroin Initiative to target sources of the drug.

Special agents with DEA, FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, along with U.S. Marshals, Gulf Coast High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force, and state and local police, spread out across North Alabama Monday morning to arrest 50 people indicted in the past six months.

Heroin dealers charged in connection with two Tuscaloosa overdose deaths are among those still being sought in the roundup.

Crime Stoppers of Metro Alabama will be working with the DEA and task force to find those who have not been arrested.

Stay with ABC 33/40 as we bring you the latest developments on the federal roundup.
