Dr. Andrew Young, an icon in the Civil Rights Movement and former top aide to Martin Luther King Jr., talked with ABC 33/40 reporter Marissa Mitchell Sunday just prior to a commemoration program for the 50th anniversary of the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing.

The 81-year-old Young has acted in multiple capacities as a leader in the African-American, business and religious communities having been a former Vice President of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, a board member for companies such as Delta, Marriott, Cox Communications and others, as well as a three-term member of U.S. Congress for District 5 in Georgia.

Young said he owes much of his success in life to the Civil Rights events in Birmingham during the 1960s.

"All of the successes that I've had over the last 50 years probably could not have happened without the actions and reactions that occurred as a result of what happened in Birmingham," Young said.
