Update: Standoff Situation in Pleasant Grove Wednesday afternoon

PLEASANT GROVE - AL -

Update 6:07pm from Sarah Snyder: 

38-year-old Jeffrey Browning returned to his ex-wife's house on the 800 block of 10th Way in Pleasant Grove.  Browning fired a shot into the floor and scared his ex-wife. She ran and called police.  Once they arrived, there was no answer at the door.  Police then broke into the house. Investigators found "shrines" to his ex-wife complete with notes and pictures.  Police say Browning shot and killed himself and describe the scene as "unusual." The coroner is now inside. The ex-wife was not injured. 

Update:

The standoff is over. The suspect has taken his own life.

Officials with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office and the Pleasant Grove Police Department are on the scene of a standoff situation on the 800 block of 10th Way in Pleasant Grove.

Police tell ABC 33/40 a 26-year-old man barricaded himself in a house.  SWAT team negotiators are on the scene. We have a crew on the way and will update you as soon as we can.

    16 Alabama death row inmates have exhausted their appeals and are waiting to be executed. But, lethal injections will not be performed in the state at least until next spring.
