Gluten-free lunches for kids

Posted: Updated:

Packing school lunches can be difficult enough, but if you're the parent of a child with Celiac Disease, it can be even more challenging.

These children have an intolerance for gluten, which is a component of wheat, so options are very limited. Thankfully, there are many gluten-free breads on the market for parents to make sandwiches with. But as an extra precaution, doctors say parents should put their child's food in separate plastic containers they can eat out of in the lunchroom. Even a few crumbs from the sandwich of the child who ate there previously could cause a reaction.

Reactions can include throat swelling, itching, and even abdominal pains and cramping.
